Norman Solomon

Another answer to the question of how peace can be achieved through understanding is that if people understood how propaganda is used to promote war, they would not fall for it. According to this line of thought, by exposing the propaganda tactics of governments we can gain the sort of understanding needed to promote peace. Here understanding is taken to be the result of unmasking. We gain understanding when we unmask the propaganda of the war mongers and see how it is manipulative. Certainly, this cannot be the whole story to the relation between peace and understanding, but equally certain is that it is an important facet.
